The Unification Observatory was built on Odu Mountain which boasts a beautiful view of the junction between the Han and Imjin Rivers. It is a stone building with 5-stories above ground and 1-story under ground, and it was opened on Sep. 08, 1992.
Odu Mountain Unification Observatory is located 460m away from North Korea, at the narrowest part of the DMZ on the 155 mile demarcation line., It is located 118m above sea level, and was an important military spot where Goguryeo and Baekje fought for the initiative. At present, it is the northern end of the western battle line and remains as a field that shows the pain of a divided land between North and South Korea. Some attractions include The North Korea life experience hall, The North Korea exhibition room, and The North Korea image room etc., and at the open-air observatory, North Korea can be observed across the Imjin River using a telescope. All visitors except for those with permits should take the shuttle bus after parking their cars in the parking lot.
